Study Of The Differences Between People Having A Heart Attack And People Suffering Stress Cardiomyopathy

Description

Seeking men and women who are experiencing symptoms of a heart attack including chest pain and shortness of breath for a study of the effect of stress on heart function and the development of stress cardiomyopathy.

Overview

Some people who come to the hospital because they are experiencing chest pain similar to a heart attack are suffering from a weakening of the heart muscle (stress cardiomyopathy) rather than a heart attack. It can be hard for doctors to tell the difference between stress cardiomyopathy and a heart attack. We will look at differences in stress, heart function and inflammation between people having a heart attack and people suffering stress cardiomyopathy.

What we're hoping for

Evaluate the effect of stress on heart function and development of stress cardiomyopathy causing chest pain. We also hope to more easily diagnose stress cardiomyopathy.
