Description
Seeking adults with localized (has not spread) kidney cancer who plan to undergo surgery to remove all or part of their kidney (nephrectomy) for a study comparing treatment with or without an investigational immunotherapy drug before surgery
Overview
This study compares treatment with or without an investigational drug (nivolumab) before surgery to remove all or part of a kidney (nephrectomy) in treating patients with kidney cancer that has not spread to other areas of the body. The investigational drug may help the body's immune system attack the cancer and prevent tumor cells from growing and spreading. It is not yet known whether treatment before surgery is more effective than surgery alone in treating patients with kidney cancer.
What we're hoping for
We hope that giving the investigational drug, nivolumab, before kidney or part of a kidney removal surgery (nephrectomy) may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue to be removed in patients with localized kidney cancer.
