Study Of An Intensive Medical Management Plan For People At Risk Of Stroke

Description

Seeking men and women whose carotid arteries have narrowed for a study of an intense medical management plan to reduce risk factors for stroke including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and smoking.

Overview

Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either just the intensive medical management plan or the plan and either carotid endarterectomy (CEA) or carotid artery stenting (CAS) procedures to treat narrowing of the arteries.

What we're hoping for

We hope to study whether an intense medical management plan targeting high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and quitting smoking can reduce the risk of stroke for people whose carotid arteries have narrowed.
