Experimental Treatment for Metastatic Prostate Cancer

Description

This study is looking at an experimental treatment for prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and has grown even though treatments to lower the amount of male sex hormones are being used to manage the cancer.

Overview

This study is for patients with advanced prostate cancer that have already had treatment with hormone therapy and the chemotherapy drug docetaxel. The purpose of this research study is to compare any good or bad effects of using a different chemotherapy drug in addition to the usual approach of treatment for this cancer: hormone based therapy and steroids. Study participants will be randomly assigned to receive the study drug and standard treatment or standard treatment alone.

What we're hoping for

We hope to learn if adding this chemotherapy drug to standard treatments helps better treat this type of prostate cancer.
